Balanced
regional development has always been a key concern of the Indian Planners
to make sure that the various regions participate fully in the process of
economic growth and development to realize their development potential and
improve the socio economic conditions of their people. With this objective
in mind the Department of Regional Planning and Economic Growth was
established in July 1974 with Prof. A.C.Minocha as the founder and Head.
Thereafter Prof. O.S. Shrivastava took over as Head of the Department in
1987 . Prof. H .S. Yadav is Professor and Head of the Department since
1996.
The Department of Regional Planning and Economic Growth is an
interdisciplinary department which promotes academic pursuits in Economics
and Geography. The department offers M.A. degree in Economics with
specialization in Regional Planning and Economic Growth and M.Phil. and
Doctorate programmes in Geography and Economics. The teaching programmes
focus on Regional Planning and Developmental studies with
interdisciplinary approach. Since 2005, the department has also started a
self financed Post Graduate course in Environmental Science.
